We can pretty much set up the RP any way we want to, but both ideas sound good to me. And I'm not saying that we can't have new characters come in, nor am I against it, but at the same time I don't think we can ban old characters from being used either. From my point of view, it would be more like starting over with a favored character (For example, Vince, one of my characters, may have been used in a grand total of 2-3 RPs, and these RPs never got finished. Now I agree to be fair that he should start out on the same level as all the new characters, just like Aiden and all the other characters of other members would, but I don't think it would be fair to tell other people that they couldn't use a character they created.) Besides, though it appears we have a few more members now that are interested in RPing here once again, there would be only a handful of old characters reused for the RPs, and even less than that since a few of the members appear to be wanting to use new characters as it is. So you have a couple familiar faces around; would it be that much of a problem in the fantasy world of pokemon?
This brings me to another point I thought of, though I honestly don't know how people may take to it. We've talked about setting a time era for PA and about taking it a short time into the future. What about the past? What if we made an Academy based in a time era similar to, say, Sir Aaron's time? I brought this up for a multitude of reasons.
It seems that one theme of these Pokemon Academies is the students and faculties having some sort of supernatural and/or magical powers. Yes, in a world of fantasy you may expect as much no matter what time period you are in. Though I would have to say that I think these powers and magical abilities would be far more "normal" to encounter in a older setting. The power of Aura, which a lot of people take interest in, was far more tied into Sir Aaron's time than the present or future time. This would make the power of Aura somewhat more available to others and make it not as overpowering as it could be in the future.
Our Academy has, at least i think, always been viewed as a source of power, on some occasions on a military level. I think this would be easier to use in a past setting when there were wars to be had and would coincide better with the powers and abilities. This would be back when arrows, swords and magic were the backbone of military might, along with catapults and various other contraptions. Our school would still be an Academy, but with a goal to train knights, medics, teachers, wizards or what have you, and various other roles in order to help their homeland, or to fend of evil powers (which our school tends to do quite often.)
Grant it, we wouldn't have all the technological advancements as are available in a more present/future setting, which means some cross-overs (another aspect PA likes to include) wouldn't be possible, or at least would be logical (even if logic is a bit flawed in a fantasy setting). However, I think this would allow us to be a bit more creative and original with not only character designs, but school design as well. Further than that, we could practically create the entire world, seeing as only a place or two has been established in the pokemon realm during those times. We could go back even to the time of...gosh,. I don't remember then name of the place, but back to the era set in the Jewel of Life movie. I just think something new might bring about more members with curiosity and help us in our lack of RPs and muse. It would certainly be able to provide the fresh start we're looking for.
