You find your way down the hall to the back of the school, somewhere near the cafeteria. As you approach the door labeled 'Mitzi's Cooking Class <3~' you can't help but notice the tempting aromas of cakes, cookies, stew, parfaits, and many other gourmet foods. Slowly, you open the door and peer into the classroom at many different types of ingredients scattered among the table. These ingredients being several different types of beef, different assorted vegetables, spices, and a few seafood-like ingredients.
“OK, everyone~!” Mitzi sang happily as she threw her arms into the air. “Today we're going to make beef stew~ I've got the directions. on a slip of paper in front of you. However, here's the catch! You must pair up in groups of two! Anyone late or left over will have to join someone elses group. But five points will be deducted from your grade level. Have fun!” She chimed while clasping her hands together. “Oh! And you can choose your own ingredients. This is just an example.”
INGREDIENTS
Curried Beef Stew
In a plastic food storage bag, combine cubed beef, flour, curry powder, ginger, onion powder, salt, and pepper; set aside. In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add celery and onion; saute until just tender. Add the beef and any excess flour, stirring well. If necessary, add a little more oil. Continue cooking, stirring, until beef is lightly browned. Add beef broth; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Add sweet potato, carrots, potatoes, and lima beans. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Add tomatoes. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes longer.
Serves 4 to 6.
